Enter your WOU credentials (username and password), then click “Login” and you’re good to go!

Find the small tab to the left of theVirtual Desktop<\/span> screen and click on it. This will open a side screen full of options.<\/p>\n

At the top of this side screen, click on the button with the three square symbols, as shown in the screenshot below. This will send a Ctrl+Alt+Delete to the\u00a0Virtual Desktop<\/span> machine.<\/p>\n

Click “Agree & Install.” This will begin the install process.<\/p>\n

Once the install has been completed, click on \u201cFinish\u201d<\/p>\n

You’ll have to restart your computer for the installation to complete. Click on “Restart Now”<\/p>\n

Once your computer restarts, log in and open the Horizon Client. Once inside the app, click on “Add Server”<\/p>\n

In the popup screen that appears, enter “vdi.wou.edu” then click the “Connect” button<\/p>\n

A security window will pop up asking if you want to open the app. Click \u201cOpen\u201d<\/p>\n

The app will open in a new window asking you to enter the name of a Connection Server. Enter \u201cvdi.wou.edu\u201d into the field, then click \u201cConnect\u201d<\/p>\n

After you click the “Connect” button, a login screen will appear. Enter your WOU username and password, and you should be all set!\"VDI<\/p>\n

Find the installer file in your Downloads <\/span>folder and double click on the anyconnect-win <\/span>icon<\/p>\n

The installer wizard should pop up. Click the \u201cNext<\/span>\u201d button.<\/p>\n

Choose the \u201c<\/span>I accept the term in the License Agreement\u201d radio button. Then, click \u201c<\/span>Next\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On the bottom left of your screen, navigate to the search box (click the magnifying glass icon) and in the text box type “<\/span>AnyConnect” and click on “<\/span>Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client” <\/span>when it pops up<\/p>\n

A small window should appear with the drop down box pre-filled with ra.wou.edu<\/span>. If this box is\u00a0not filled, please type ra.wou.edu<\/span>. Click on \u201cConnect<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

In the new window that appears, enter your WOU credentials (username and password), then click \u201cOK<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

On the bottom right of your screen, you should see a message that you are connected via VPN (the message will only last for a few seconds)<\/p>\n

Click on the System Tray <\/span>(small caret [up arrow]) icon on the bottom right of your screen. This will bring up a small window full of icons. Click on the one that looks like the earth with a lock over it. This will open the Cisco VPN Client<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Once the Cisco VPN Client <\/span>window appears, click on \u201cDisconnect<\/span>\u201d and you\u2019re done<\/p>\n

If you get the message that the package\u2019s certificate has expired, click \u201cContinue<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

Back in the installer window, click the \u201cContinue<\/span>\u201d button<\/p>\n

After the previous step, a popup will appear asking if you want to move the package to the trash. This is completely up to you; however, the installer is no longer needed and can be thrown away.<\/p>\n

On the bottom left of your screen, once again open Finder<\/span>, then navigate to Applications <\/span>on the sidebar. Within Applications <\/span>there will be a folder titled \u201cCisc<\/span>o<\/span>.\u201d Open the folder and double click on the \u201c<\/span>Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client\u201d application<\/span><\/p>\n

A small window should appear with the drop down box pre-filled with ra.wou.edu<\/span>. If this box is not filled, please type ra.wou.edu<\/span>. Click on \u201cConnect<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

In the new window that appears, enter your WOU credentials (username and password), then click \u201cOK.<\/span>\u201d You should now be connected to the VPN.<\/p>\n

Click on the folder icon near the bottom left of the screen. This will open \u201cFile Explorer<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

Right click the \u201cThis PC<\/span>\u201d icon on the left hand side of the menu. A submenu will appear.<\/p>\n

In the new window, select the correct drive letter that you want to use. Free drive letters will have empty lines next to the colon; these are the ones you want to choose.<\/p>\n

Once Finder is open, go to the tool bar at the top of your Mac and click \u201cGo.\u201d In the menu that pops up, click \u201cConnect to Server.\u201d (Alternatively, once Finder was open you could just use the keys Command + K). The window Connect to Server will pop up on your screen.<\/p>\n

The Connect to Server window allows you to add the drives you\u2019d like to connect to. In the \u201cServer Address\u201d text area, type in the following:

Then, click the plus (+) button on the end of that text area so that the server address will be added to the \u201cFavorite Servers\u201d area for easy access.

Here are some best practices for securing your virtual classroom using Zoom.<\/p>\n

Secure your virtual classroom or meeting room<\/h3>\n

Do not make classrooms or meeting rooms public. It is very important that you tell your students not to post Zoom room information, especially passwords, on social media. Provide the link directly to specific people. This means you will want to email or text your remote participants directly. You could also post the meeting information in Moodle, in a location that only your students have access to.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In Zoom, there are two options to make a meeting private: require a meeting password or use the waiting room feature and control the admittance of guests. Once your meeting is started, you can lock the Zoom session so that no one else can join. It is kind of like closing the classroom door a few minutes after the class starts. Give your students a few minutes to connect to the room and then click Participants at the bottom of your Zoom window. In the Participants pop-up, click the button that says Lock Meeting.<\/p>\n

Enable the Waiting Room<\/h3>\n

The Waiting Room feature is one of the best ways to protect your Zoom virtual classroom and keep out those who aren\u2019t supposed to be there.<\/p>\n

When enabled, you have two options for who hits the Waiting Room before entering a class:<\/p>\n

  1. All Participants will send everyone to the virtual waiting area, where you can admit them individually or all at once.<\/li>\n
  2. Guest Participants Only allows known students to skip the Waiting Room and join but sends anyone not signed in\/part of your school into the virtual waiting area.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The virtual Waiting Room can be enabled for every class (in your settings) or for individual classes at the scheduling level (see below).\u00a0 Starting on March 31, 2020 this feature was turned on by default.<\/p>\n

    Control screen sharing<\/h3>\n

    Manage screen sharing options. In Zoom, change screen sharing to \u201cHost Only\u201d (As of March 26, 2020, this is enabled by default). This will give instructors more control over what students are seeing and prevent them from sharing random content. However, if students need to share their work with the group, you can allow screen sharing in the host controls. Click the arrow next to Share Screen and then Advanced Sharing Options. Under \u201cWho can share?\u201d choose \u201cOnly Host\u201d and close the window. You can also change the default sharing option to All Participants in your Zoom settings.<\/p>\n

    Lock down the chat<\/h3>\n

    Teachers can restrict the in-class chat so students cannot privately message other students. We\u2019d recommend controlling chat access in your in-meeting toolbar controls (rather than disabling it altogether) so students can still interact with the teacher as needed.<\/p>\n

    Remove a participant<\/h3>\n

    If someone who\u2019s not meant to be there somehow manages to join your virtual classroom, you can easily remove them from the Participants menu. Hover over their name and the Remove option (among other options) will appear. Click to remove them from your virtual classroom, and they won\u2019t be allowed back in.<\/p>\n
