{"id":1455,"date":"2015-06-04T18:20:12","date_gmt":"2015-06-05T02:20:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wou.edu\/westernjournal\/?p=1455"},"modified":"2015-06-04T18:20:12","modified_gmt":"2015-06-05T02:20:12","slug":"max-max-second-opinion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/max-max-second-opinion\/","title":{"rendered":"Max Max: Second Opinion"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre>By Declan Hertel\r\n Staff Writer<\/pre>\n<p>In sharp contrast to my colleague Nathaniel, I hated \u201cMad Max: Fury Road.\u201d I hated it because it was a perfect action film and, therefore, has ruined all other action films for me.<\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t know that movie genres could be won, but \u201cMad Max: Fury Road\u201d has won action films.<\/p>\n<p>I couldn\u2019t look away for a second. \u201cMad Max\u201d is, for my money, the most visually beautiful film since 2009\u2019s \u201cAvatar.\u201d The vibrant orange and blue color palette brings the wasteland to life, deftly avoiding the brown deluge that often plagues post-apocalyptia.<\/p>\n<p>Every element of the world \u2014 from the absurdly dangerous automobiles to the religious fervor of the War Boys; even the bungee-suspended, pajama-wearing flamethrower-operator\/war-guitarist (take a second to absorb that) \u2014 just feels\u2026 right.<\/p>\n<p>Without exaggeration, I say even the weakest action sequence in the film is far and away better than any other I\u2019ve seen recently. Every scrap is executed with complete abandon, reveling in the madness without a care in the world; it\u2019s an attitude best expressed by Nux during an utterly unhinged battle sequence: \u201cWhat a day! What a LOVELY day! \u201c<\/p>\n<p>Have yourself a \u201clovely day\u201d at the cinema.
