{"id":2249,"date":"2015-11-19T20:22:09","date_gmt":"2015-11-20T04:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wou.edu\/westernjournal\/?p=2249"},"modified":"2015-11-19T20:22:09","modified_gmt":"2015-11-20T04:22:09","slug":"art-faculty-shows-their-skills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/art-faculty-shows-their-skills\/","title":{"rendered":"Art faculty shows their skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre>By: Emily Pate \r\nStaff Writer<\/pre>\n<p>When first stepping into Campbell Hall\u2019s Cannon Gallery, my gaze was immediately grabbed by the plastic forms of Sung Eun Park\u2019s piece titled \u201cNo One Will Take Your Crown.\u201d<br \/>\nMade from many different elements, including a child\u2019s wheelbarrow, plastic wine glasses, and Korean accessories called Norigae, this brightly colored work of art seems transported from a more fantastical world. <\/p>\n<p>This work is just one of many that are part of the exhibit, called the \u201cArt Faculty Biennial,\u201d currently on display in Cannon Gallery. Each artist on display has their own unique and fascinating style. <\/p>\n<p>In contrast to the repurposed and colorful elements of Park\u2019s art, Ian Factor\u2019s emotive charcoal portraits are realistic, and convey great depth in the greyscale shades that this medium allows. <\/p>\n<p>Jodie Garrison gives her black and white portraits exuberantly patterned backgrounds, while Paula Portiga Booth works on birch boards, combining patterns painted in acrylic with textural photographs. <\/p>\n<p>All of the artists are Western Faculty members, some of which also have their names on the signboard that lists the Art Department\u2019s faculty directly across from the Gallery, on the other side of Campbell\u2019s front door. <\/p>\n<p>This exhibit is a chance for students to see what their teachers have created.
