But then \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d began filming in April 2021, and fans were thrown back into the drama that was the Targaryen Dynasty \u2014 with Teams Green and Black fighting for control over the Iron Throne.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Now, over six years since \u201cA Game of Thrones\u201d last aired, fans are set to enter the Seven Kingdoms once again, with Ser Duncan the Tall as the primary protagonist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Set 100 years after the height of the Targaryen Dynasty and 90 years before Robert\u2019s Rebellion, \u201cA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\u201d adapts author George R.R. Martin\u2019s novellas \u201cTales of Dunk and Egg.\u201d These novellas follow the titular knight Dunk \u2014 who is eventually renamed Ser Duncan the Tall in the first novella \u2014 and his squire, Egg, as they traverse the Seven Kingdoms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\u201d was first announced in April of 2023, though the spinoff\u2019s cast wasn\u2019t announced until Oct. 9, 2025 \u2014 the same day the trailer debuted at New York Comic Con. Peter Claffey \u2014 known for \u201cBad Things\u201d and \u201cVikings: Valhalla\u201d \u2014 is set to play Ser Duncan the Tall, while Dexter Sol Ansell \u2014 whose debut role was young Coriolanus Snow in \u201cThe Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes\u201d \u2014 will play his squire Egg.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\u201d is set to premiere Jan. 8, 2025, with six 30-minute episodes releasing every Sunday after.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With this spinoff series releasing in January, however, it pushes back Season 3 of \u201cHouse of the Dragon,\u201d which fans have been anticipating since Season 2\u2019s anticlimactic end in August of 2024. Season 2, which was meant to feature the Battle of Gullet, had only eight episodes, two fewer than the previous season. Season 3 will follow the same eight-episode format.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Originally supposed to release in early 2026, Season 3 of \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d has now moved to an April or June premiere date \u2014 based primarily on fan speculation. The production crew has yet to announce an official release date.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d is based on Martin\u2019s prequel \u201cFire and Blood,\u201d which tells of the Targaryen civil war sparked when Queen Alicent Hightower usurped the throne from her stepdaughter, Rhaenyra, in favor of her son Aegon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The series has already been greenlit for its fourth and final season, though there is no set date for filming to begin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Whether \u201cA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\u201d will be approved for a second season is entirely up to the viewership numbers, but a majority of the franchise\u2019s fans are excited for this new series.
