Stuart<br \/>\nScott was 49 years<br \/>\nold and was diagnosed<br \/>\nwith cancer in 2007.<br \/>\nHe was the catalysis to the new century of<br \/>\nthe way sports was broadcasted, and one of<br \/>\nthe most memorable and inspiring faces on<br \/>\ntelevision.<br \/>\nScott was not only an actor starring in<br \/>\ntelevision shows and movies like \u201cDrumline,\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cHerbie: Fully Loaded\u201d and \u201cThe Longest<br \/>\nYard,\u201d but also a father to two daughters,<br \/>\nTaelor and Sydni, a Jimmy V Award winner<br \/>\nat the 2014 ESPY Awards and, most importantly,<br \/>\none of the staples to the change and<br \/>\nimprovement of the way sports was reported<br \/>\non television.<br \/>\nKnown for his enthusiasm, love and passion<br \/>\nfor sports, unique style and catchphrases<br \/>\nsuch as \u201cBOO-YAH,\u201d \u201cas cool as the other<br \/>\nside of the pillow,\u201d and \u201che must be the bus<br \/>\ndriver \u2018cause he was takin\u2019 him to school,\u201d<br \/>\nScott used his inspiring and entertaining<br \/>\npersonality to impact everyone around him<br \/>\non and off the air.<br \/>\nIn 1993, Scott entered ESPN during the<br \/>\ncreation of ESPN2 as a frequent on SportsSmash<br \/>\nand SportsNight before earning a seat<br \/>\nin SportsCenter and covering some of the<br \/>\nlargest events in sports.<br \/>\nScott covered the NBA and NFL for<br \/>\nESPN and in 2002, was named studio host<br \/>\nfor the NBA on ESPN.<br \/>\nBy 2008, he had earned lead host for NBA<br \/>\non ESPN and ABC where he anchored the<br \/>\nNBA finals and SportsCenter\u2019s prime-time.<br \/>\nCovering the NBA finals from 1997 until<br \/>\n2014, Scott became a familiar face and a<br \/>\nfamiliar voice, anchoring some memorable<br \/>\nsports history and using his fancy catchphrases<br \/>\nto capture exactly what sports is<br \/>\nabout: passion and enthusiasm.<br \/>\nScott was not only a memorable and historic<br \/>\nfigure on ESPN and to the public, but<br \/>\nalso an inspiration and a fighter.<br \/>\nIn December 2012, Scott\u2019s illness returned<br \/>\nand he began sharing more details with the<br \/>\npublic, including that he only missed ESPN<br \/>\nfor chemotherapy treatments every other<br \/>\nMonday and that he would train at a mixedmartial<br \/>\narts gym afterwards.<br \/>\nFor someone battling such a debilitating<br \/>\ndisease, he was determined to prove nothing<br \/>\ncould slow him down or decrease his experiences<br \/>\nin life.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen you die, it does not mean that you<br \/>\nlose to cancer,\u201d Scott said during his acceptance<br \/>\nspeech at the 2014 ESPYS. \u201cYou beat<br \/>\ncancer by how you live, why you live and in<br \/>\nthe manner in which you live.\u201d<br \/>\nThe impact upon athletes and colleagues<br \/>\nhas shown bright through their public remembrances<br \/>\nand statements on how much<br \/>\nof a pioneer Scott was for this organization<br \/>\nand for those around him.<br \/>\nArizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry<br \/>\nFitzgerald expressed his thoughts on Scott\u2019s<br \/>\npassing through Twitter with this statement:<br \/>\n\u201cStuart Scott was more than a great father;<br \/>\nhe was a most cherished friend, a signature<br \/>\nsports anchor and entertainer, more<br \/>\nthan a prophet for the power of mass communications.<br \/>\nHe became the voice of daily sports on a<br \/>\nnational level at a time when sports communication<br \/>\nwas proliferating into a phenom<br \/>\nenon that changed the way we digested the<br \/>\nheroics of athletic prowess.\u201d<br \/>\nLos Angeles Lakers and NBA legend<br \/>\nKobe Bryant was also greatly impacted by<br \/>\nScott\u2019s passing.<br \/>\nDuring a post-game interview he was<br \/>\nasked about his reaction:<br \/>\n\u201cThe sports world lost a legend. I certainly<br \/>\ngrew up wanting to be on SportsCenter just<br \/>\nto have him comment on a highlight or two<br \/>\nof mine. He\u2019s really changed the vernacular<br \/>\nof sports and added such a, kind of a hip-hop<br \/>\nculture to the sports game. He battled hard,<br \/>\nI can\u2019t say enough about what an inspiration<br \/>\nhe\u2019s been.\u201d<br \/>\nBesides the inspiration Scott instilled<br \/>\nin so many young athletes, professional<br \/>\nathletes he was interviewing, viewers, coworkers<br \/>\nand public figures, he truly was a<br \/>\npioneer, \u201cHall-of-Famer,\u201d to SportsCenter<br \/>\nand ESPN.<br \/>\nSince the beginning, his personality and<br \/>\nstyle slowly created a positive growth to the<br \/>\nway we view and broadcast sports.<br \/>\nHe will forever be remembered and continue<br \/>\nto inspire those around him to live life<br \/>\nto the absolute fullest, as cool as the other<br \/>\nside of the pillow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ESPN lost a legend on Sunday, Jan. 4.
