PHOTO BY MATT COULTER<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<pre>BY RACHEL SHELLEY\r\nSPORTS EDITOR<\/pre>\n<p>The women\u2019s basketball team stayed busy this<br \/>\nwinter break playing six games since Dec. 4, 2014,<br \/>\nincluding three conference match-ups and sweeping<br \/>\nthe competition during the Las Vegas Challenge on<br \/>\nDec. 17-18. The Wolves finished up 3-3 before the<br \/>\nbulk of the conference play begins.<\/p>\n<p>The first conference match-up on Dec. 4, 2014 the<br \/>\nWolves beat Northwest Nazarene 70-68. Forward<br \/>\nDana Goularte registered her fourth straight doubledouble<br \/>\nagainst the Crusaders and the Wolves shot a<br \/>\ncombined 41 percent from the field. The Wolves had<br \/>\nthree players in double digit points and took advantage<br \/>\nof offensive rebounding with 22 second chance<br \/>\npoints. The bench combined for 18 of the teams 70<br \/>\npoints.<\/p>\n<p>Goularte scored a game-high 17 points despite<br \/>\nthe loss against conference team Central Washington<br \/>\non Dec. 6, 2014 34-60. The Wildcats snapped the<br \/>\nWolves two game winning streak, allowing Western<br \/>\nto only two second chance points. Following another<br \/>\nloss to California Baptist University, the Wolves<br \/>\ntraveled to Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Challenge on<br \/>\nDec. 17 and 18.<\/p>\n<p>Western defeated Holy Names University (Calif.)<br \/>\n73-60 where center Emily Howey scored a careerhigh<br \/>\n16 points. The Wolves shot a combined 39.7<br \/>\npercent from the field and added 20 second chance<br \/>\npoints. Western held the Hawks to zero second<br \/>\nchance points in the first half. The second and final<br \/>\ngame of the Las Vegas Challenge the Wolves defeated<br \/>\nDixie State University 66-53. Goularte surpassed the<br \/>\n1,000-point mark of her career during the game. She<br \/>\nalso had a game-high 10 rebounds and earned her<br \/>\nsixth double-double of the season.<\/p>\n<p>The Wolves last game to end the holiday break<br \/>\nwas a conference match-up against Saint Martin\u2019s<br \/>\nUniversity where they fell 58-69. Although Western<br \/>\ncombined for 40 percent from the field, Goularte was<br \/>\nthe only to score in double figures with a game-high<br \/>\n19 points. The Wolves were only able to capitalize on<br \/>\n10 second chance points and two fast break points.<br \/>\nThe bench scored 18 of the Wolves 58.<\/p>\n<p>The team is led by Goularte who is averaging 16.2<br \/>\npoints per game and 10.7 blocks a game. Howey<br \/>\nleads the team with a 55 percent field goal percentage<br \/>\nwhile guard\/forward Sami Osborne leads the Wolves<br \/>\nwith 86 percent from the free-throw line.
