The women\u2019s basketball team stayed busy this
\nwinter break playing six games since Dec. 4, 2014,
\nincluding three conference match-ups and sweeping
\nthe competition during the Las Vegas Challenge on
\nDec. 17-18. The Wolves finished up 3-3 before the
\nbulk of the conference play begins.<\/p>\n
The first conference match-up on Dec. 4, 2014 the
\nWolves beat Northwest Nazarene 70-68. Forward
\nDana Goularte registered her fourth straight doubledouble
\nagainst the Crusaders and the Wolves shot a
\ncombined 41 percent from the field. The Wolves had
\nthree players in double digit points and took advantage
\nof offensive rebounding with 22 second chance
\npoints. The bench combined for 18 of the teams 70
\npoints.<\/p>\n
Goularte scored a game-high 17 points despite
\nthe loss against conference team Central Washington
\non Dec. 6, 2014 34-60. The Wildcats snapped the
\nWolves two game winning streak, allowing Western
\nto only two second chance points. Following another
\nloss to California Baptist University, the Wolves
\ntraveled to Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Challenge on
\nDec. 17 and 18.<\/p>\n
Western defeated Holy Names University (Calif.)
\n73-60 where center Emily Howey scored a careerhigh
\n16 points. The Wolves shot a combined 39.7
\npercent from the field and added 20 second chance
\npoints. Western held the Hawks to zero second
\nchance points in the first half. The second and final
\ngame of the Las Vegas Challenge the Wolves defeated
\nDixie State University 66-53. Goularte surpassed the
\n1,000-point mark of her career during the game. She
\nalso had a game-high 10 rebounds and earned her
\nsixth double-double of the season.<\/p>\n
The Wolves last game to end the holiday break
\nwas a conference match-up against Saint Martin\u2019s
\nUniversity where they fell 58-69. Although Western
\ncombined for 40 percent from the field, Goularte was
\nthe only to score in double figures with a game-high
\n19 points. The Wolves were only able to capitalize on
\n10 second chance points and two fast break points.
\nThe bench scored 18 of the Wolves 58.<\/p>\n
The team is led by Goularte who is averaging 16.2
\npoints per game and 10.7 blocks a game. Howey
\nleads the team with a 55 percent field goal percentage
\nwhile guard\/forward Sami Osborne leads the Wolves
\nwith 86 percent from the free-throw line. Guard Jordan
\nMottershaw is average 12.3 points per game and
\nshoots 85 percent from the free-throw line.
\nThe Wolves welcome University of Alaska to Monmouth
\non Jan. 10 for their first conference matchup
\nof the season at 5:15 p.m. Western Oregon leads
\nAlaska 24-16 in the history of the match-up\u2019s between
