{"id":604,"date":"2015-01-23T14:30:54","date_gmt":"2015-01-23T22:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wou.edu\/westernjournal\/?p=604"},"modified":"2015-01-23T14:30:54","modified_gmt":"2015-01-23T22:30:54","slug":"nightly-show-already-a-fitting-replacement-for-colbert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/nightly-show-already-a-fitting-replacement-for-colbert\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cNightly Show\u201d already a fitting replacement for \u201cColbert\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By NATHANIEL DUNAWAY<br \/>\nEntertainment Editor<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Comedy Central premiered their newest nightly comedy news program, \u201cThe Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.\u201d Filling the time slot after \u201cThe Daily Show with Jon Stewart,\u201d that has for the past nine years been dominated by \u201cThe Colbert Report,\u201d Larry Wilmore\u2019s show tackles serious issues such as race, class, and social injustice, but in an expertly comedic way.<\/p>\n<p>In just his first week, Wilmore has gone straight for the throat, addressing controversial topics such as the Bill Cosby rape allegations and the Ferguson riots.<\/p>\n<p>While not as light in tone as \u201cColbert,\u201d \u201cNightly Show\u201d is still satirical and fun at heart (the first episode commented on \u201cThe Lego Movie\u2019s\u201d recent Academy Awards snub).<\/p>\n<p>Wilmore previously appeared on \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d under the moniker of the \u201cSenior Black Correspondent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Will \u201cThe Nightly Show\u201d draw the same immense viewership as \u201cColbert\u201d?
