  {"id":6595,"date":"2017-10-25T20:45:28","date_gmt":"2017-10-26T04:45:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wou.edu\/westernjournal\/?p=6595"},"modified":"2017-11-10T12:53:02","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T20:53:02","slug":"mens-cross-country-runs-title-women-jog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/mens-cross-country-runs-title-women-jog\/","title":{"rendered":"Men\u2019s cross country runs to the title, women&#8217;s ranks sixth"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Zo<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00eb<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Strickland | Managing Editor<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Oct. 21, Wolves cross country headed to Bellingham, Washington to compete in the GNAC Championships. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The men\u2019s cross country team, currently number 12 in the NCAA DII rankings, took home two trophies <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">their first team title, as well as a first-place 8,000-meter trophy for senior David Ribich.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The team win is the first GNAC Championship win in Western history <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> it also beat a seven-year winning streak from University of Alaska Anchorage. The Wolves came close to a win 10 years ago, but ultimately ended up in second place. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ribich, currently GNAC Athlete of the Year, won the 8,000-meter with a time of 24:54.82, coming in 0:48.83 seconds in front of Edwin Kangogo from University of Alaska Anchorage. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Western junior Dustin Nading placed eighth in the same event with a time of 25:32.76. Wolves Tyler Jones, Parker Marson and Justin Crosswhite came in at 11th, 12th and 13th, rounding out the top 15 spots in the event. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The cumulative scores of the men\u2019s team resulted in the 51-point win for the Wolves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Senior Kennedy Rufener took the lead for Western\u2019s women\u2019s cross country, placing seventh in the women\u2019s 6,000-meter run. Rufener finished with a time of 22:07.73.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The second Wolf to place was senior Suzanne Van De Grift, who came in 21st with 22:53.51.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Wolves stay in Monmouth for the next cross country event.
