  {"id":705,"date":"2015-02-09T17:29:44","date_gmt":"2015-02-10T01:29:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wou.edu\/westernjournal\/?p=705"},"modified":"2015-02-09T17:44:33","modified_gmt":"2015-02-10T01:44:33","slug":"student-directed-play-none-of-the-above","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/student-directed-play-none-of-the-above\/","title":{"rendered":"Student-directed Play &#8220;None of the Above&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_735\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-735\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernjournal\/files\/2015\/02\/NotA21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernjournal\/files\/2015\/02\/NotA21-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"PHOTO FROM SCOTT GRIM\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" class=\"size-large wp-image-735\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2015\/02\/NotA21-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2015\/02\/NotA21-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2015\/02\/NotA21.jpg 1208w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-735\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PHOTO FROM SCOTT GRIM<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<pre>By NATHANIEL DUNAWAY\r\n Entertainment Editor<\/pre>\n<p>Directed by Bachelor of Arts theatre major Dani Potter, \u201cNone of the Above,\u201d a play by Jenny Lyn Bader, opened this weekend and will run for a total of four performances.<\/p>\n<p>Starring Bachelor of Fine Arts actors Rosie Peterson and Nicholas Kintz, \u201cNone of<br \/>\nthe Above\u201d is a comedy about Jamie (played by Peterson), a rich New York City private school student, and her SAT tutor Clark (played by Kintz).<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the play, the two are at odds over their respective priorities, and importance of the SATs.<\/p>\n<p>Jamie is a part-time drug dealer with distant parents, and Clark is a geeky graduate student who counts all the words in the sentences Jamie says.<\/p>\n<p>In order to be chosen to direct this year\u2019s studio play, Potter was required to take both directing classes on campus, as well as direct a 10-minute play and a one-act play for last year\u2019s one-act festival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen it was a waiting game,\u201d Potter said. \u201cThe powers-that-be met and talked<br \/>\nabout all of the work I had done and how they felt my productions went. Then [I was told] at the end of spring term 2014 that I was chosen to direct the studio show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peterson and Kintz were cast back in December, with rehearsals beginning at the start of winter term. Potter said that she\u2019s had this show picked out since last July, and was notified of its approval the following month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDirecting \u2018None of the Above\u2019 has been an experience I will never take for granted,\u201d Potter said. \u201cIt has taught me so much about myself, about people, and about how important art is for the educational process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of the Above\u201d will continue its run Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Feb. 7 as well.<\/p>\n<p>Performances are in the Studio Black Box theatre of Rice Auditorium. Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 seniors, $7 students and Western students can get in free with student ID.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets can be purchased at the Rice Auditorium box office by calling 503-838-8462.
